Cabot is described in Vol. IV, No. 1. https://vermonthistory.org/abby-maria-hemenway Ron will read some of the historical highlights of Cabot from Abby Hemenway’s 1881 Vermont Historical Gazetteer book on Washington County, from the Abenaki heritage through its first hundred years of white settlement, “Civil, Educational, Geographical, Religious and Military.” The Saga is not without its humor, written by six well-informed citizens, in a style reflective of the contemporary Mark Twain’s droll phrasing: “Population by census.—1870, 1279. 3 suicides in town; 4 persons drowned; no murder. A man, name of Doloff, broke into Dana’s store, stole a gun, a bar of iron and all the rum he could drink; got so drunk he could not get away; he was sent to prison and he died there.” Willey Building, 2nd floor Meeting Room, 3084 Main St.
